Breaking the Cycle: Understanding the Patterns That Shape Your Life with Dr. Lara May

Welcome back to Light Body Radio!

Have you ever found yourself in a familiar situation and wondered, "How am I here again?"

Maybe you're repeating the same relationship conflicts, struggling to maintain healthy boundaries, or promising yourself that you'll finally prioritize your well-being—only to fall back into old habits a few days later. Perhaps every time you begin making progress toward a goal, procrastination, self-doubt, or distraction seems to pull you in another direction.

What if these experiences are connected by patterns you haven't fully recognized?

In this episode of Light Body Radio: Wellness Illuminated, Dr. Lara May explores the relationship between neuroscience, nervous system regulation, and the recurring behavioral patterns that influence our everyday lives. She invites us to look beyond the circumstances that keep repeating and consider how our own thoughts, emotional responses, and behaviors may contribute to familiar cycles.

Why Do We Keep Repeating the Same Patterns?

The human brain is designed to learn from experience. It recognizes familiar situations, predicts possible outcomes, and develops automatic responses that can make everyday decisions more efficient.

These learned patterns can be helpful, but they can also keep us repeating behaviors that no longer serve us.

For example, feeling misunderstood might trigger defensiveness. Stress might lead to overcommitting or neglecting self-care. Fear of failure might cause procrastination just when we're getting closer to an important goal.

Recognizing these patterns is an important first step toward changing how we respond.

Awareness Is Only the Beginning

Understanding why we behave a certain way can be empowering, but insight alone doesn't always create change.

We can recognize our triggers, understand where our habits originated, and talk about our experiences while continuing to respond in the same familiar ways.

Dr. Lara explores why meaningful transformation requires more than awareness. It involves noticing automatic reactions, creating space between a trigger and a response, and practicing choices that align with the life we want to create.

Change doesn't mean getting everything right. It means becoming more intentional about what we do next.

Mercury Retrograde: An Opportunity for Reflection

This episode also explores Mercury retrograde as a symbolic framework for revisiting, reconsidering, and reflecting on recurring experiences.

Whether or not astrology resonates with you, the idea of taking time to reassess familiar patterns can be valuable. A repeated conflict or emotional reaction can become an opportunity to ask different questions.

What keeps resurfacing in your life? What beliefs might need to be reconsidered? And what could happen if you responded differently this time?

Rather than treating astrology as a scientifically established cause of personal experiences, we can approach its symbolism as an invitation to reflection and self-inquiry.

Breaking the Cycle Starts With a Different Choice

You may not be able to control every situation or change another person's behavior, but you can begin exploring how you respond.

That might mean setting a boundary instead of overexplaining, resting instead of overcommitting, or taking one small step toward a goal instead of allowing self-doubt to take over.

In this episode of Wellness Illuminated, Dr. Lara May invites you to recognize the patterns shaping your life, interrupt automatic responses, and move from self-awareness toward intentional action.

Sometimes transformation doesn't begin when the situation changes. It begins when you choose to respond differently.

Listen to Breaking the Cycle: Understanding the Patterns That Shape Your Life on LightBody Radio and discover how greater awareness can open the door to meaningful, lasting change.
